Media Matters: Why be critical of Glenn Beck for pushing against the extremists?

August 3, 2009

It seems like Glenn Beck and the other Fox News guys can’t catch a break from “progressive” advocacy group Media Matters. Even when Beck says something that they’ve all but told him he needs to say, they can’t bring themselves to acknowledge he’s done something right.

On Media Matters’ MMTV they featured a clip from today’s episode of the Glenn Beck show in which the host passionately exhorted his viewers not to pick up arms against a government they no longer trust.

This has been the drum that everyone from MSNBC host Keith Olbermann to film critic Roger Ebert have been pounding for months: conservative talkers have lit the fuse of violent extremists.

Now the claim that Fox News supports political murder is forced to evolve. According to the commenters on Media Matters Beck is only saying this as a way to cover himself:

Glenn Beck and FoxNews Channel have received some disturbing information about violence coming to Democrats at one of the Townhall Meetings this Summer, and he is just trying to “distance” himself from what he may know is coming. Scary and so sad because FoxNews Channel would “definitely” be “responsible” for any violence against ANY American politician. Many people have “warned” of FoxNews mean-spirited and nasty statements from Republicans (Conservatives, Right-wingers, GOPers) but “ratings” were so “high”. And now Glenn makes this kind of statement. Hmmm, let’s hope the right Authorities have been notified by FoxNews Channel. Just shameful, shameful, shameful.

Another commenter even suggests that Beck is winking at his viewers and telling them to go ahead and commit acts of violence anyway:

“Whatever you do don’t sacrifice yourself in a brave, selfless act to rid our country of an invalid facist dictator who hates white people and wants to destroy our country. I’m serious now. Don’t do it.”

It’s just the usual radical tactic deployed in a different way: characterize your opponents as crazy so you don’t have to bother engaging them in debate. Destroy the person and you don’t have to go to the far more challenging task of beating the idea.

Unbelievable. Rather than actually looking at the issues at hand and presenting opposing views (backed up with verifiable facts), the progressives choose to focus on, twist and spin Glenn’s admonition to avoid violence. Is this a transfer, an imposition of what lurks in their hearts and minds onto what Glenn said? Are they at their core this kind of person who would take to violence because some group disagrees with them? Whatever happened to the idea of taking someone at their word? Regardless of whether or not we agree with someone, a civilized society should take one another at their word until proven otherwise. Voicing such suspicions and avoiding the real debate on real issues shows just how small minded and shallow these people are.

I watch Glenn Beck daily and record each of them. I watched him when he was on CNN along with Lou Dobbs, however, I cannot stand to watch the other members of the Obama gang’s useless state run media. I cannot stand either political party unless they throw out the liberals and moderates to get back to the constitution and GOD. I wonder how anyone can say Beck advocates violence when he clearly states the opposite in his book, Common Sense.

I think Glenn Beck is right on in his comments. You’ll never hear the Liberal media say a word about all the corrupt people working for President Obama. At least you’ll hear the pros and cons by listening to Beck, that is more then I can say of the Liberal media. Beck is sincere and I agee that we can voice our opinion without any violence.
How about President Obama just be up front and tell Americans that he wants to change us from a Republic to Socialist country? At least this would keep him from telling so many lies. The Liberal double standard I can have my opinion but conservatives must keep there mouth shut. The sleeping giant is awakening and fighting back with our hearts and mouths. Thanks Mike S.

Punching hippies is not violence. It’s a reflex.

There is opposition in all things. It seems to me to be a law of the universe. So what or who does the left oppose and what or who does the left support?

The left supports abortion, the taking of human life while opposing the death penalty. Ginsberg in her befuddled state revealed a dark secret of Roe v Wade. That is abortion is to reduce the population of societal undesirables. The left supports Islamic terrorism. How dare I!! I dare because the facts support!

How many times have you heard the left claim something to be good when something inside of you cries out that this something is just plain wrong, that it is evil cloaked in a garment of light. The opposite holds true with the left slandering someones good name calling good evil. Now where have we heard that before?

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

This should cause some to gnash their teeth and rail against the “evil” conservatives.

POP Quiz: Who is the father of all lies? ________ is the Master of the Left.

Yes, and if you connect the dots between what Ginsburg revealed and the health care plan… it is easy to see that the elderly ARE DISPOSABLE!

Usually the one who yells the loudest is the one trying to cover up. Soooo, Media Matters, what are you trying to cover up?

Geez. Somehow I bet that when the violence comes, it’ll be the democrats that start it. I’ve never met a sane conservative or libertarian yet that said, “Pick up your guns and start a war.” Nor has either bombed an abortion clinic, or beat up a gay person.

History shows that on average, the normal conservative follows the laws and uses reason to fight, not weapons. However, the same can not be said of liberals, who continue to shout down people who they disagree with, or better yet, they try to scare them into not doing the right thing.
