A Devastating TV Moment: Finally, a leftist with the guts to call ACORN a disgrace

September 17, 2009

A most significant “line in the sand” was crossed yesterday when Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart, whose trademark mockery of conservatives has made him a comedic icon to many on the left, made it crystal clear that ACORN — in light of the recent revelations about its eagerness to abet tax fraud, illegal immigration, and underage prostitution rings — is nothing more than a no-class criminal enterprise.

Stewart also rebuked the so-called “mainstream media” for their stunning refusal to have investigated this matter on their own — even for a moment. And beyond that, he mocked the intellectual bankruptcy of those who have tried to spin the ACORN scandal as a defamation campaign of “paranoia,” “coded insinuations,” and “incessant attacks” orchestrated by members of the alleged “right-wing lunatic fringe” at Fox News.

This is 6 minutes of must-see television — at once uproariously funny and pointedly devastating. To view it, click on the picture above. (Hat tip: Mike Finch)

Wow! could it be that Jon Stewart is on the brink of an epipheny a la David Horowitz (and me, too) who became aghast at the obvious criminal behavior on the left and desired to distance ourselves from it and then naturally embraced what is good and true in this wonderful country?? too much to hope for? but I pray it’s true.

I think we all are seeing the truth about extremism in our government and have had enough. Once people began to realize that party affiliations would maintain their freedoms has become a ‘joke’ .

The argument is not which party is right: It is which party represents us all.

      Neither…

With just a handful of exceptions, those parasites represent ONLY themselves…

And that’s the real problem with America right now…

Sometimes I wonder which aspect of the left is the more devastating to the American idea… their ideology or their corruption..

The one thing which the Founding Fathers tried to do and didn’t quite succeed at, was preventing America from falling under the thumb of a new permanent ruling class….

We need to make a few small adjustments to that glorious document… nothing major… just a little tweaking.

      Sir,

re: “The argument is not which party is right: It is which party represents us all.” –

I beg to differ. I would love to see aspects of what is right being discussed, and alternatives which are all shades of the correct positions selected from, rather than the current array of “wrong” choices that are currently under consideration by the congress and our government.

No one seems to care about right and wrong any longer – it’s a matter of what’s expedient, or, worse, “What can we get away with?” – I fear that we need a fundamental shift in our thinking and for our country as a whole to get back to doing the right thing, not the expedient, or politically correct thing.

It’s worth noting that in and of itself, that excludes all of the agenda of the left, and wholly obviates their direction. But that’s just the icing on the cake.

      -Russ

I just watched this again before sending to some people. It is hilarious.

Jon Stewart is not “a leftist.” He’s a late-night talent whose audience is liberal, often VERY liberal. That’s cool with me. A leftist is someone who doesn’t like where America came from and thinks he or she has an inspired vision of what my beloved country should become. That’s certainly not Jon Stewart.

That what so good about Jon Stewart, the right wing doesn’t know he is making fun of them. It subtle but it there. He’s brilliant.

pbrauer: The “right wing” certainly does know he’s making fun of them (me). But I don’t mind; some of the things conservatives do IS kinda humorous (accidentally shooting hunting buddies, winking provocatively during speeches). Again, he’s a late-night comic with a very liberal audience. No harm, no foul.

“I’m a FAKE journalist and I’M embarrassed they scooped them on this story!”
    Great stuff.

Now, I just wish he’d go off on Jimmy Carter. I’d like to hear what John Stewart has to say about “Mistah Jimmy’s” wrinkly old anti-Semitic, white mug preaching to the rest of us about racism! Talk about pandering! (Maybe his speechwriters came from Acorn).

    Betty Boop,
In order for John Stewart to go off on Jimmy Carter, the rerun, would have required that a physical barrier be erected between him and the Progressives and liberals in the audience that worship old Jimmy as a lasting icon of Progressive ideals that has weathered the conservative barrages over the years. Carter is the patron saint of novice Progressives that admire his “stick-to-it-to-them” approach while smiling.

Stewart bucks leftist icons all the time. He slams Obama weekly, mostly for caving to Republicans.

Can you imagine what would happen if Jon Stewart actually DID have an epiphany – a suddenly “new vision” of the Right he has pilloried for so long?!? He’s very funny and very observant of the political scene – he could skewer right & left with abandon AND his ratings would soar even more (like, all the Conservatives who don’t/won’t watch him now will suddenly see that he’s become “must-see TV!”). Wouldn’t that be nice to have someone with his stature on “our” side for a change?

Meantime, Greg Gutfeld is absolutely terrific, too – but his on-air time is impossible for most of us! Need to bring him into closer-to-prime-time time slots… He’d be a HUGE success! On the other hand, his success is also due to his excellent & clever handling of his nightly Libtard guests as well. Would the more mainstream Conservative audience be down with that?
