Time Magazine Demonstrates Bias In Favor of Media Matters

September 21, 2009

glenn beck

One final item from the Time story on Glenn Beck which I rebutted on Saturday:

With a staff of about 25 employees at Mercury and 10 or so at Fox, Beck Inc. is doing its part to jump-start the economy. And there are ancillary industries feeding on the success of Beck and others like him. Both left- and right-wing not-for-profit groups operate as self-anointed media watchdogs, and one of the largest of these — the liberal group Media Matters for America — has a multimillion-dollar budget. Staff members monitor Beck’s every public utterance, poised to cherry-pick the most inflammatory sentences. (Conservative outfits do the same for the likes of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann.) These nuggets are used in turn to rev up donations to political parties and drive ratings for the endless rounds of talking-head shows.

Why is it that Time chooses to highlight Media Matters but not conservative publications like NewsReal and NewsBusters? What’s up with that? And Media Matters even has the audacity to attack Time for the story. What an absurdity.

A good detective follows the money trail to find the motive of a crime.

We find the crime being committed, but not justice.

Good journalism fought for justice, once, but…formally enlightening publications have accepted the bribe, and are no longer credible for having done so.

Therefore we are fragmented and confused without the leadership to help us.

Especially those that we once looked upon with pride.

Beeecause the piece was about Beck, and Media Matters is dedicated to expose his insanity? Maybe if, in some parallel universe, Olbermann were as successful as Beck and the piece had been about him, the blogs you mentioned might have warranted aattention.

On their From 990 to the IRS (2007) their Orgainzations primary exempt purpose statement:

“Media Matters for America is a web-based non-for-profit progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing and correcting conservative misinformation in the US Media”

Has anyone read any of their pieces? Good grief!
