CNN’s Rick Sanchez at it again: Calls Sheriff Joe Arpaio another Bull Connor

October 19, 2009

Do these images come to mind when thinking of Sheriff Joe Arpaio?

Disgraced journalist Rick Sanchez can’t seem to stop falsely-accusing people of racism on his daily CNN show.  How do you follow up trying to destroy Rush Limbaugh with a fake quote about slavery having merit?  You accuse Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio of being another Bull Connor.

Arpaio has become a man of controversy recently as some in the Obama administration do not care for his tactics in arresting illegal aliens.  (This controversy was featured and detailed in another NewsReal blog here.)

Arpaio has been elected five times in his county.  He is famous for his frugality in taking care of prisoners, making them wear pink attire and work chain gangs.  However, the Obama administration has put a target on the man for arresting illegal aliens for simply being illegal aliens.  They rather him only arrest illegal aliens when they do something else illegal.

Sanchez has made a giant leap by comparing Arapio to notorious Southern ’60s-era sheriff Bull Connor.

“Perhaps not since Bull Connor, whose aggressive police tactics against blacks in the south…has our country seen a showdown like [Arpaio’s]…like Bull Connor in the 1960s you’re gonna sit there and tell the Feds you’re gonna do it your way.”

The interview would be humorous if it were an SNL skit or on The Daily Show – but not CNN.  Sanchez continues to say that the Feds don’t want Arpaio’s help, even though Arpaio keeps telling him that the government keep accepting all the illegal immigrants he hands over to them.  Sanchez also seems to have the idea that a local sheriff has to do whatever a pencil pusher in a Washington office wants. And Arpaio is the one who doesn’t understand the constitution?

All that aside, it is reprehensible and yet another case of bad journalism for Sanchez to compare Arpaio to Connor, the infamous Alabama sheriff from the 1960s Civil Rights movement period.  He’s the one most identified as the bigoted sheriff who blasted peaceful black demonstrators with fire hoses and set German Shepherd dogs on them.  The man was a segregationist and went far beyond appropriate behavior.  This man arrested pastors out of fear of a bus boycott and then denied them bail or visitors.

Connor used vicious tactics against peaceful demonstrators, because of a segregationist ideology.  Arpaio is using legal tactics against criminals based on upholding the law as a sheriff.  How can one make a comparison between the two with a straight face?

Comparing Arpaio to Connor is like comparing Limbaugh to a racist.  Oh wait – Sanchez has done that too.  Here’s a better example: Comparing Arpaio to Connor is like comparing Sanchez to a legitimate journalist – the two are polar opposites.

Rick Sanchez is a hyperventilating hispanic from florida. He was a co-anchor on a local news channel that went tabloid and so did Sanchez. He was so disliked that he eventually went to MSNBC until nobody liked him over there. Now he is not liked too much on CNN. To take the side of your own ethnic group regardless of their behavior will lose your credibility EVERY TIME. He would probably have a large audience in South America.

Three cheers for Sheriff Joe, an officer and a gentleman — with guts enough to donate to every member of U. S. House and Senate. The members of those august bodies certainly could use some of the fortitude and common bloody sense that Sheriff Joe has in abundance. When I came to America there were many men (and women) like Joe. Where, oh where have they gone?

Rick Sanchez continues to prove he is the real racist and not Limbaugh or Sheriff Arpaio. We all know by now, that the Obama Socialist organization and his socialist leftwing party in Washington are in favor of legalizing all Illegals. Since they haven’t been able to give outright amnesty to the millions of Illegals, Obama, does what he can to make it harder for any Illegals to be deported or even arrested. Sheriff Arpaio doesn’t bow down to the Socialist Obama. Arpaio is a true American, something I can’t say for the Socialist Obama and his crybaby leftwing party.

Not long ago Pelosi was talking to a group of Illegals and told them they should not be treated as law breakers. Democrats want the Illegals votes. Obama wants to lower the standard of all americans and by letting millions of Illegals remain here in america, he is gradually succeeding at those goals. My hats of to good folks like Sheriff Arpaio.

Mr. Sanchez is the definition of dishonesty. CNN is his tool to demonstrate flaming idiocy. He demonstrates a very adolescent and naive opinion with which no one really cares about. With the exception of Anita Dunn and the Red House of course.

Let’s hope he isn’t at his job long. He is one of the reasons I don’t watch MSNBC and CNN or the other networks outside of Fox News……..It is too bad that there is no system on our airwaves to force honesty. Let’s hope that our honest leaders have enough support to continue the responsibilities they hold……and hope that people like Sanchez will not be allowed to continue.

Far be it for the sheriff to do his job. Pandering to ones own race or ethnic group EVEN THOUGH the law and constitution is clearly against you demonstrates a populist, tabloid mentality that is not worthy of CNN.
Ranks up there with the ” point by point ” refutation of the SNL skit. Absolutely bush league ( I guess that saying is Bush’s fault too? ).

Sheriff Joe is a true American icon. We need his toughness and frugality in California. Why should prisoners have virtually all the amenities of a hotel. Great expensive meals–what’s wrong with bologna and peanut butter sandwiches, TV with many channels, and the best medical care anyone could hope for. Why should they have transgender operations paid by the State? If he’s ever defeated in AZ. send him here to CA. Why do you think we’re so broke? The illegals(30% of them are in CA.’s jail population) and the overexpensive prison system. Why not open a prison in Mexico and transfer the illegals there at lO% of the cost. We could have a couple agents there to make sure they are still in prison. We already have a treaty that allows for this and would give Mexico some funds and their low-life criminals back.

Maybe Sanchez is too dumb to realize that he is-to all appearances- advocating a centralized authoritarian regime in which the POTUS can order around a locally elected official as if he were a White House intern.

That is exactly what Obama and his czars are trying to do. If they succeed in passing amnesty this nation is done for. It will be the final blow that I believe will rip the union apart.

    Paul,
I did enjoy the article, but, you are laboring under the impression that Sanchez has intellect and can analyze and export a coherent message to his boob tube audience is frankly giving Sanchez much more credit that I ever would. Perhaps, you were feeling kindly and generous today. Declaring today as a day to be kind to the terminally stupid is not a bad thing. I personally do not believe that Sanchez actually knew who Bull Connor was and his place in history. It simply does not fit in with his past history of monumental displays of ignorance and dunderheadedness. So, I will end it here with a wish for Mr. Sanchez’s future enlightenment and growth of honesty. You see, I can be kind.

Rick Sanchez is typical of American Pravda, the Joseph Goebbels arm of the progressive Democrats led by Boy Bam’s propaganda arm. Oh, and don’t let the White Houses heavy artillery Obamaniacs attack on Fox News get you sidetracked from what is really going on.

According to Glenn Beck the Obmaniac team of Emmanuel, Axleron and Anita ‘Mao Inspires Me’ Dunn is flacking and shilling for Obama in order to ram Obamacare and European style Cap and Trade down our throats. Watch the hand with the coin in it during the old magicians sleight of hand trick. The coin hand draws you to the other hand the coin is supposedly put in, which is always empty. What happened to the coin? It never left the coin hand. It is the progressives same tired bait and switch scam that fools only the foolable.

American Pravda, with hacks like Mr. Sanchez have absolutely no news worth value at all. Only the “I wants mines” crowd pay attention to these quacks and journalistic charlatans. God Fox News, fair and balanced . . . “We Report. You Decide”. It doesn’t get any better than that.

I very seldom watch Rick, it seems when i do, i get stomach problems. Sooner or later his open borders at any cost stance comes out, it seems to be the disease that most liberls have today. Actually he would make a better actor, because that seems to be what he is doing on this current gig, it sure isn’t news.
