Democrats Have Found the Perfect Place for Gitmo Terrorists

October 19, 2009

Guantanamo (Gitmo) Bay detainees may soon be headed for a courtroom near you, according to a report on Sunday morning’s Fox and Friends. House Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi, have passed a bill that would allow the inmates to be transferred to U.S. soil for prosecution and incarceration.

Lawmakers against the legislation have pointed out that in one fell swoop, House Democrats, by voting for this legislation, have put Americans in danger, have weakened the judicial system and undermined the Constitution.

John Colburson, Congressman from Texas and member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, explained why bringing the Gitmo detainees here for trial is a bad idea:

Never before in American history have we given foreign soldiers, captured on foreign battlefields, U.S. Constitutional rights. They have now passed a law that, when our American men and women in uniform, capture an enemy soldier on a foreign battlefield, our men and women are going to have to think about the chain of evidence, of reading them their Miranda Rights…foreign soldiers will now be able to “lawyer-up” at U.S. taxpayer expense to be tried in U.S. Courtrooms. It’s absurd.

As of now, there are roughly 220 hard-core Islamic terrorist prisoners remaining in the Guantanamo facility, which was opened at the U.S. naval base in Cuba after the Sept. 11 attacks. President Barack Obama has been a staunch proponent of having the prison closed, announcing on his second day in office that he wanted it closed within a year. The problem is, he hasn’t been able to do so because of some major legal and political hurdles. In addition, closing Gitmo entails solving one major problem: no one seems to want the prisoners.

Well, almost no one.

There does seem to be one place where the terrorists will not only be welcome, but the elected officials there are almost begging to get them. Can you guess who it is that wants them that badly? Is it Saudi Arabia, Libya or Yemen?

Nope—it’s Michigan.

Some local officials in and around Standish, Michigan, home to the Standish Maximum Correctional Facility (which is otherwise scheduled to close later this month), think that transferring the worst of the worst from Gitmo will somehow stimulate the local economy and provide jobs in the community.

Former Defense Department terrorism analyst Peter Leitner thinks this is bunk, and he predicts that the security threat posed by importing the terrorists far outweighs any economic benefits:

Michigan will become a magnet for foreign and domestic terror cells, as well as radical organizations of the left and right. If there are homegrown terror cells looking for a good cause, this will be a good cause for them.

Retired Army Lt. Col. Gordon Cucullu, a former Army Special Forces officer and author of a book about Gitmo, agrees:

Everyone in Guantanamo is there because he wants to kill Americans. What we’re doing is hanging a target not only on Standish, but also on the whole community, the whole region.

Don’t worry, good people of Michigan. Obama, Pelosi and those Democrats who voted for this know what they’re doing.

Bringing these thugs to America is a grave mistake. So much for Obama’s international power, charm and popularity. Most countries told Obama, “Hell No!” Hey, did Obama ask the Norwegians if they wanted these criminals?

agreed; and I think he said he would be glad to take em’ ….
they’ll look good in pink, and they’re use to the hot weather….

Send them to San Francisco. Perhaps Pelosi will invite them over for lunch.

Sigh, whatever happened to summary execution? Gitmo could be closed in a day or two with a series of firing squads working, and if a machine gun were used, ten minutes, but then there would be the added cost of wasted bullets to account for.

The cost of the bullets might be well worth it if we do it right…..

Didn’t Black Jack Pershing do something like that ?

We have the prisoners dig a huge pit, throw some butchered pigs in the pit, dip the bullets in pig’s blood, shoot them, & bury them over with a bulldozer…

AND DO IT ON TV !

      pour encourager les autres

Evil loves to corrupt innocence. The far left loves to inflict pain on normal people. If the Gitmo terrorist savages are near Detroit – which has a great number of Muslims – and the terrorists escape and kill more Americans, the far left will actually love it.

They’ll love it because they hate America. Gitmo terrorists killing Americans is less work for the far left when they take over our country, i.e., it’ll be less people they will have to kill themselves when the battle for control arrives.

And how many bother to go to and contact their Representatives and the White House and say NO MUSLIM TERRORISTS ON OUR SOIL?

Or just come here and complain.

Wait a minute, we are giving people who aren’t american citizens, and who were taken as military prisoners the right to a civil trial?
    Is Pelosai freakin’ nuts?

This is a bad idea on so many fronts:
    1) This sets a bad precedent that if you are captured on a foreign battlefield, that you’ll get constitutionaly protected right. This could lead to there being no more prisoners taken on the battlefield. If we refuse to take prisoners, so too would any other enemy we fight.

    2) Did you ever consider that some shyster ACLU or CAIR lawyer would defend these guys for free? Or that they could get off scot free. All it would take are threats made against twelve people and terrorists could walk free.

    3) If you want to house them someplace, feel free to bunk with them, Mr. President, because we feel safer with them in Cuba.

    4) If you bring them over here, you’ll have people attacking the court house where you try them, and the prison you put them in. This will not only endanger the legal staff, but also the prison guards, their families, their community and their state.

      Obvious rational truths and observations…

Your outrage however is based on the premise that BHO is trying ti the the right thing for this country…

Yes.. Pelosi is indeed freakin nuts!

Yes.. people will be attacking courthouses etc….

And with chaos, you can create a crisis, and commies love a good crisis…

On the other hand of course, it does create work for lawyers, who I’m sure the government will pay for with our tax dollars…

By bringing the Islamo-facists here to the mainland and to our Civil courtrooms, Obama is merely paying back part of what he owes to the trial Lawyers association for the Humongous contributions they made toward his election campaign.. Thousands of his Lawyer buddies will become Multi-Millionaires at tax payer’s expense…….Go figure!!!!

Didn’t they pick up a former Gitmo detainee in Afganistan last week???? I cannot remember the specifics except that he was just released. Obviously he had access to the funds and passport to make it through another countries. Is this what is called Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me??????

The problem we have today stems from the cause: We took them as prisoners.

Has anyone commented on the bloodshot eye and the fly? It is rather ugly, isn’t it. I offer my opinion with respect, of course, as a new boy on the site.

      I think it’s an interesting shot…

An eye that looks VERY closely at things…..

Or a fly in the ointment…

Both somewhat indicative of who I am around here from time to time…

Pelosi, Reid and Obama should be required to put them in their own backyard since they think the U.S. is such a great place for these satanic humans.
