Liberal Bias is Killing the New York Times

October 21, 2009

ny times

The path towards irrelevancy and future insolvency taken by The New York Times continues at a frenetic pace. Democracy Now! is reporting that the publication has announced the elimination of another 100 newsroom positions, or about eight percent of the paper’s news staff, due to declining advertising revenues and circulation numbers that are in freefall.

Why are subscribers (and advertisers) of The New York Times fleeing to other newspapers (such as the Wall Street Journal, whose circulation numbers have remained steady), or to other avenues such as Fox News, for their news and information?

There is only one answer: The New York Times has a proclivity towards left-wing bias and unbalanced reporting of the news.

Even a cursory glance of the paper reveals its pervasive editorializing, which comes through loud and clear everywhere from page one to the obituaries. But just as damaging to it than its left-wing slant has been its complete lack of interest in any stories having the remotest possibility of tarnishing the hallowed image of President Barack Obama, an image which it and other members of the so-called “main-stream media” has had such an active role in creating.

Take, for example, two recent events which went completely unnoticed by The New York Times, but were covered in great depth by Fox News and conservative bloggers: the Van Jones and ACORN affairs. Marxist Van Jones was forced to resign in disgrace and ACORN was reeling from having had its funding and government connections cut after an undercover sting, and The New York Times– in both instances–was asleep at the wheel. The complete lack of coverage given to the ACORN debacle so embarrassed the editor of the paper, Clark Hoyt, that he actually wrote a column about it promising to do better in the future and announcing that the paper was going to assign somebody to “monitor opinion media and brief them [the editors] frequently on bubbling controversies”!

It’s no wonder that The New York Times has lost all credibility.

Biased journalists writing biased stories are not a winning formula for a newspaper purporting to provide its readers with “all the news that’s fit to print.” A left wing agenda, however you try and package it, is not news. The lack of ideological diversity at The New York Times (and the Boston Globe and all of the rest of the dying left-leaning publications) is the main reason that the paper is dying.

The real tragedy, however, is that the paper can still turn itself around. Nobody is killing The New York Times–it is committing suicide. A realignment of its editorial policy from far-left to center, and a loss of its timidity when it comes to reporting on stories which may reflect unfavorably on President Obama, might actually bring some of its readers, subscribers and advertisers back.

Exactly why I cancelled my subscription just this past month. I cannot in good conscience support such a consistent misappropriation of the truth.

Isn’t the New York Times too big to fail or have I just been living a nightmare for the last year?

Can’t happen fast enough, in the interim maybe the Times can hire Axlerod and Dunn to concoct a winning PR strategy?

The New York Times is experiencing the same presures as many other Dead Tree outfits (Newspapers) from the internet. As the saying goes, this is not rocket science.

Dont worry as soon as the white house finishes its war on fox news and the like i am sure they will distribute the Times to us all paid for by your taxes.

U.S. newspapers have been on a down trend for at least 10 years in terms of subscribers and ad revenue. Marketing people in the publishing business know this to be a fact. However, some execs in the business are unwilling to admit that they publish an inferior product.

The NYT has long been the Propaganda Wing of the MarxiCrat’s. There is an Obama bailout ready and waiting when/if needed to keep the BS flowing. Same for the LAT. “All the News that Fits the Tint”

A long time ago I used to read the New York Times. Then I realized they were lying by omission and it became a game for me to fill in the blanks to uncover the real story. And how the story changed with all the information revealed!

It makes no sense to support that propaganda rag in a free country. Why would anyone pay to be spun, manipulated and misinformed in order to arrive at a world view that is false and to vote for a political party that is directly opposed to liberty?

Right on, Sarah. Like you, I was a NYT reader a long time ago, but abandoned that “pleasure”. A friend and I used to spend most of our Sundays afternoons, together, reading and discussing NYT content, but now we play tiddlywinks, a much more enlightening use of our time.

We have a similarly biased rag here in Britain. It’s called the Guardian and unashamedly shills for the left, Islam, Palestine and of course Obama.

It is, in similar manner, tanking as is their client favourite Party, Labour.

    We’ve had enough!

Looks like the US is also waking up to this nightmare of top down edict and the hollowing out of society from within by rabid Marxists intent on nothing less than ruling the world.

Good! We took eleven years to twig, the US is reacting much more quickly and the demise of the NYT would send such a shockwave message as to unhinge even further the Mao loving wingnuts currently going down like lead balloons.

    Viva la resistance!

The lack of outstanding leaders in America, the non-accountability of politicians, and lack of honesty among those who would guide this nation can be attributed, in large part, to the decline in the real function of news organizations, which is to tell the truth. This nation’s media, generally speaking, is a disgrace and is not taken seriously in most parts of the world. What sad commentary. I am an American by choice, feel privileged to be so, but this is not the same America that once stirred my passion. This is the country that produced “The Greatest Generation” which saved the world from tyranny and oppression. Its young men fought — and so many died — for freedom and the right to live in peace, yet today we desecrate the memory of those who sacrificed by our self-made divisions among ourselves. And for what purpose? I can only hope that one day I will see a true leader emerge to take this country to where it once was, and beyond — to its potential.

I think the reason for the overall decline in America is due to a lack of morality and religion (and people actually living their faith rather than simply talking about it), and the truly abysmal education our kids receive. The people who are leading our country today, and the people who support them, were educated yesterday.

Democracy is a word that replaced what was once our ‘REPUBLIC’. But …
we all got brainwashed into that one, didnt we? And when did that happen?
Were you paying attention, or did it just ‘appear’ out of the blue one day? Well, it is not your fault if you are young, because it happened in your parents day, and from Newspapers and commentators to text books and teachers, they continued to spread the propaganda right up to present day.

NYT has NO WORRIES about ‘going out of business’, much like the TV and radio stations willing to yield to BIG BRO…right onto the Weather Channel and Actors, producers and Directors in Hollywood. They’re all in the same melting propaganda pot.

I assume we are of a similar age and say that one of the biggest errors our generation is guilty of is not recognizing the difference between knowledge and wisdom. In general we were far more educated than our parents, Dad could not talk about Quantum Theory or Karl Marx, but Dad had a level of wisdom that cannot be purchased with a tuition check. However, anytime he tried to say anything, he was smashed in the mouth with words for which he had no defense.

Remember how the media took out after Sarah Palin for the Republican National Committee’s $150,000 wardrobe shopping spree? Well now we hear that M. Michelle receives all of this because she has never felt respected as a black woman in the USA. She is simply trying to make herself comfortable. Doesn’t she deserve it? Don’t say it aint so!

Too big to fail? To cowardly to succeed?
The Red House met secretly with both MSNBC and the NY Times this week according to sources leaked to FOX News as reported yesterday. Why??? Is a bail out deal in the making??? Or, are they officially being purchased by the DNC to remove all doubt of political leanings? At least this way everything would be up front and out in the open. The diversionary tactics of the Red House are being ramped up to heights unknown. It has become so difficult to decifer actuality from deception. Now we know what a community organizer does. He perfects deceit and deception and passes it on to others, for a price. The bully and his gang of thugs on the playground have shown their true colors and total ineptitude in guiding this country. Watching the 3 (Obama, Axelrod, Emmanuel) plan and execute complex B.S. games and create deceptive and destructive plans for this country behind closed doors is similar to the Nazi organization and plans in Europe prior to the outbreak of WW2.This is more frightening every day.

I am not happy, much less gleeful about the collapse of the New York Times. In the past, even though it was center-left in politial orientation, it provided quality and in depth coverage that few other papers in the United States even bothered to emulate. Those days of being a flag ship newspaper are long gone, due to its editorial policy, shrinkage of the paper and article length, and finally the quality of its writing. It is a paper that is not worth its $2.00.
