Lou Dobbs to Leave CNN

November 11, 2009

Now Lou Dobbs really is Mr. Independent.

The last of CNN’s original news anchors just announced he is leaving the network he joined in 1980, and this evening’s episode of “Lou Dobbs Tonight” will be its final broadcast. He will continue to host his national radio program. Dobbs revealed his motives in a straight-forward statement at the program’s opening:

Over the past six months, it’s become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us. And some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving.

He said chief among his concerns would be illegal immigration, America’s foreign policy, and defending “our now weakened capitalist economy.” The former host of Moneyline added that he sought contractual release to address these issues “in the most honest and direct language possible,” an opaque admission of what everyone already knew: Dobbs’s views are increasingly out-of-step with CNN’s dominant bias.

Translated into plain English, his statement says:

  • President Obama has been far more radical in office than his campaign rhetoric;
  • His policies are busting the budget, destabilizing the border, and undermining the fundamental principles of the American economic system; and
  • The network I have worked at for 27 of the last 29 years wants me to shut up about all this.

Dobbs concluded he is fielding a number of offers, and “I will let you know when I set my course.” Last month, I noted Dobbs met with Fox News chairman Roger Ailes last month. However, an anonymous Fox spokesman told the New York Times today, “We have not had any discussions with Lou Dobbs for Fox News or Fox Business.”

Wherever he goes, he will be one of the few mainstream broadcasters revealing the extent of the nation’s compounding illegal immigration problem. Just weeks ago, someone fired a shot at his New Jersey home, an action Dobbs said followed “weeks and weeks of threatening phone calls.”  The left-wing Talking Points Memo blog has tried to portray this as nothing more than a “Hunter’s Errant Bullet”! Where is the left-wing outrage over illegal immigrants’s “lack of civility?”

We look forward to learning his next move and hope it will allow him to solve many of the issues he has so long been reporting.

What do you think? Is Lou going to Fox or some other media outlet, moving to a think tank, or will we soon see Lou Dobbs involved in electoral politics in some capacity?

Addendum: Here is CNN’s bland coverage.

I have always liked Lou because of his strong independent streak. Don’t always agree, but I admire his moxie. Good luck, Lou!

Good post Mr. Johnson. I agree with Lou Dobbs. I live in Canada and tomorrow I am cancelling part of my cable TV as I can’t stand CNN anymore. Our MSN in Canada is already so heavily censored because we have gov’t “thought police” in the form of Human Rights Commissions so one can no longer write or speak about anything of controversy which is really sad. I mostly have to read online for any worthwhile news these days.

Sorry to hear it is the SAME in Canada as in USA for news commentaries. News commentators no longer need to ‘investigate’ as News Reporters or Journalists, as they are but pawns being pushed around the board by the Puppet Masters in charge who ‘decide’ what news you WILL or WILL NOT hear. MSNBC, CNN, ABC, are the worst of all.
Lou Dobbs had been stifled and now he is free from suppression, it will be interesting to see what happens. Good luck to Lou in any and all endeavors.

Dobbs was nothing but a smug xenophobe…..

The time for his journalism came and went a long time ago

About Fox News possibilities: read this

Even Fox thinks he’s a bit off his rocker. The big things that CNN had against him were when they had to step in to get him to stop the “birther” stories. Call it censorship if you want, but there comes a point when the network credibility starts to slip. And they didn’t appreciate him mobilizing the Hispanic community against them.

Even Fox has issues with Dobbs saying: “[the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce] is effectively an organization that is interested in the export of American capital and production to Mexico, and Mexico’s export of drugs and illegal aliens to the United States.”

Does anyone even watch CNN anymore and if the New york Times is reporting he wont go to Fox how would anyone know – no one reads the New York Times either. Kind f like the tree falling in the forest – If Lou Dobbs resigns from CNN and its reported by the New York Times… no one will ever know ….

I’ve always liked Lou Dobbs. I think most of the time he is right on the money, he criticizes both sides of the aisle. Those on the far right and far left may not appreciate his views but as far as I’m concerned he is the best on TV and Radio.

I hope he resurfaces on TV somewhere.

    Good Luck Lou!

This “xenophobe” is married to a Hispanic. Why is it xenophobic to want to protect your borders? Every other country does it, including Mexico.
Why is it xenophobic to want to save jobs in a 10.2% unemployment year?

LaRaza and other radical Hispanic groups shakedown CNN. Result: They are in dead last place in cable news. FoxNews refuses to be intimidated by Van Jones, Obama et al, and LaRaza. Result: They are in first place, far ahead of MSNBC.
Dream come true? FoxNews announcing, “Lou Dobbs deafeats Robert Menendez for NJ Senate Seat…..”

The comment made by the gentleman from Canada explains the direction our government is heading regarding our freedom to question their motives in this country. While most of us see an obvious trend to silence those opposing our right to speak out. This is not what America is all about.

All of us may at one point or another, make a slight errorin judgement from time to time, but to blow that one comment out of proportion to silence the overall gist of ones point of view has become a tactic of extremists to control how we should think.

dickharvey is a prime example of that and yet, we allow his comments on this site. If this site only allowed comments the editor agreed with, then he would not have a voice in our society, today. Think about that in reverse terms, sir.

Lou has a commanding view of our deterioriting situation.
I hope he ends up expressing himself on another channel other than Fox.
Fox has plenty of conservative personalitites.
He could balance out the views of another more liberal network.
    He has shown his character.
    GO Lou!

Lou tells it like it is and doesn’t put up with the marxist lies. He cares about freedom in this country. Its about time he leaves CNN (Rin Tin Tin).

I like the fact that Lou Dobbs criticises both parties,he doesn’t let party lines distort his perception on the issues.

Lou Dobbs has for years been the last vestige of journalistic integrity remaining at CNN. So his elimination was, sadly, a corporate-agenda matter of time.

I look forward to his next plans, and thanks, Lou, for some fine and fearless reporting over the years. Ed Murrow would be proud; I am grateful.

Lou was the only CNN host I watched on a regular basis. I also listened to his talk show. He claims to be independent but to me he sounded like a conservative most of the time. It made sense to position himself between leftists and conservatives because it gave him a unique identity as a media host. To me he always belonged on FOX and would be a welcome addition to the FOX arsenal. I have agreed with Lou’s positions far more often than with Bill O’Reilly’s, who often sounds like he belongs on CNN.

The fact that CNN cannot tolerate an anchor who actually expresses an opinion that deviates from 24/7 all hail Obama is the reason it is failing to draw viewers. I haven’t watched anything but Lou Dobbs on CNN for years. Watching the same bunch of libs lauding Obama and ignoring any news story critical of him on every show all day is incredibly boring. They lose Lou and keep Rick Sanchez, the dimwit illegal alien apologist? Unbelievable!

As a Californian I know the problems illegal immigration causes. It is a major reason we are now a bankrupt state with high unemployment (for Americans, anyway). I hope Lou can continue his fight for secure borders and enforcment of immigration laws. No one else even talks about it, (too politically incorrect). I guess La Raza is now running this country.

Thank you Lou for fighting the good fight.
