Feds Target Iranian Spy Ring

November 13, 2009

650 Fifth Avenue

In what is being described as perhaps the largest counterterrorism seizure in U.S. history, Fox News is reporting that federal prosecutors have taken steps to seize four mosques, along with other properties valued at over $500 million dollars, owned by the Alavi Foundation, an entity federal authorities have accused of being a front for Iran.

The properties include buildings in Maryland, California, Houston, 100 acres in Virginia and the prestigious Piaget Building, a skyscraper at 650 Fifth Avenue in New York City that was built in the 1970’s by the then Shah of Iran. It currently houses law firms and other businesses including investment firms. The Alavi Foundation earned $4.5 million in rents from the Piaget Building alone.

The Alavi Foundation manages the real estate as the surrogate and for the direct benefit of the Iranian government. The Foundation has been accused of illegally funneling millions of dollars in rental income from its properties to Bank Melli, Iran’s state-owned Bank, by using a front company. The U.S. Government has frozen the assets of Bank Melli for providing direct monetary support for Iran’s nuclear program, and it is illegal to do business with the bank in the United States.

In its 97-page complaint, the government has detailed charges that the Foundation, for the last 20+ years, has had involvement and business dealings with several top Iranian officials, including Iran’s deputy prime minister and its ambassadors to the United Nations. According to a statement by U.S. Attorneys:

For two decades, the Alavi Foundation’s affairs have been directed by various Iranian officials, including Iranian ambassadors to the United Nations, in violation of a series of American laws.

The Alavi Foundation, which claims that its sole purpose  is to “promote understanding and harmony among people of different religions”; “promote the study of the humanities, arts, and pure and applied sciences”; “giv[e] assistance to public charitable organizations during times of hardship and deprivation caused by war or natural disasters”; and “provid[e] financial assistance to not-for-profit organizations that are involved in the teaching of Islamic culture and the Persian language,” is in fact an organization which, according to the FBI, has been providing covert intelligence to the Iranian Government.

The New York Police Department’s intelligence division believes the Alavi Foundation is “totally controlled by the government of Iran” and “funds a variety of anti-American causes.”

The successful confiscation of the Alavi Foundation’s properties would be a major blow to Iran, shutting down a long functioning spy den and eliminating a major source of financing.

Never happen. They’ll arrest two janitors and secretary while the others move on. The media will then rush in and claim how Obama is actively engaging in fighting Americas enemies. Then he’ll apologies to someone. Then he’ll loan millions of dollars to one of Irans fellow organizations here in America. All this before the ninth hole.

This is another example of our own freedoms being used against us. There is the beginning of a slow awakening by the American people that Islame is a threat to free people every where. This nation needs to come to understanding soon.

Er….and just WHY have we waited 20 years to do anything about these guys? Is this just so O looks busy after the Ft. Hood killings? This really looks like nothing more than “political expediency” for the administration. I hate politics.

  4. November 13, 2009 5:47 am

And, really, when I first heard this, I was prepared to applaud…but now, after reading these guys have been in business for 20 years…all I can say is WHY now?

The “Why” is because the collectivist in the Congress, media and academia have used irrational Political Correctness to destroy Freedom.

Hopefully the FBI, embarrassed by the terrorist Hasan, is ignoring Obama and Holder and going after domestic terrorism. They probably learned that the politicians will use them as scapegoats and knife them in the back like they did the CIA interrogators. The FBI has often ignored the political Justice Department in the past and enforced laws, especially political corruption.

What security clearance did Hasan have? I understand that Obama never received Top Secret clearance, like many in his and Clinton’s Administration, as a Senator. Comforting in an Administration financed and controlled by the Fascist Socialist George Soros?

Obama couldn’t even pass the background check required to work for Civil Service due to his past associations with thugs and terrorists. But he has access to the most secret of national secrets…..unless the holders of that information have wisely chosen to cut him out of the loop whenever possible, which is what I’d do were I in their shoes.

Jack, our nation will slowly wake up after more attacks on our soil. I guess 9/11 wasn’t enough to keep them roused, although it worked for a short time.
Ft. Hood will, historically, only be a small blip on the screen. The mainstream media can’t even bring themselves to call it a terrorist attack, and of course Obumble doesn’t want that event on his watch so he has simply chosen to call it something else.

But I predict there will be more attacks….sooner than later because of his spineless, delusional response to Ft. Hood. Hopefully not too many people will die before we leave this absurd culture of denial behind and begin to act more like Israel, constantly on a war footing.

I will hold Obumble and the libs personally responsible for any further terrorist deaths in our nation. He’s the president now, not George Bush.

This is what happens when you give Iran and some of their neighbors and friends a “pass” They are not afraid of the U.S. Some of the problem started with the Shah of IranMohammad Rezā Shāh Pahlavi, and then the taking of hostages in Tehran under the Carter administration.

Ever since then we have made it worst. You have to be tough. Like Israel. Now we have another mess. Iran wants to enrich nuclear fuel. I say no more passes.

So will the F.B.I. being confiscating Jewish synagogues and buildings owned by Israeli dual citizens who have been undermining the security of the U.S. for decades now? Will they shut down AIPAC and other organizations like JINSA who should be required to register under the Foreign Agents of Foreign Agency act instead of actively undermining U.S. security.

All the while we send one fourth of our International aid to Israel. who has massive stockpiles of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons that go uninspected.

When will the same standards being applied to this Iranian situation be applied to Israel and their spying here in the states?

Yes…also, remember the devastating attack perpetrated by the Jews of Israel? You know, those Jewish terrorists that boarded several commercial airliners and flew them into buildings full of people for the glory of God? Can’t forget all of those Jewish suicide bombers. And that Jewish guy that shot up a US military base recently? I can’t beleive we missed that.

Obama is doing the best he can. So is Eric Holder. Unfortunately, their best efforts undermine the security of the nation.

All I can say is “It’s about freakin’ time.” Unfortunately, the next step in this story will be about our illustrious Attorney General announcing he’s going to prosecute the FBI for hate crimes…

As with everything in the Obama administration, this is smoke and mirrors. A distraction and will have to play out to determine it’s true worth. The Obama administration attacking an Islamic organization seems out of place with their history of embracing evil.Time will tell if this is a political ploy to manipulate and deceive or is it a legitimate pursuit of capping Iran’s money lines.

Maybe this is how Obama plans to pay for universal health care.

I was thinking of something similar…
but what we see is not what we get so I’ll reserve my thought ….

I wish the word “would” be a major blow was instead being reported as “has” been a major blow…..

W/E happens, we know that everyone is watching our new so called leader, and in many of their eyes we (under the non-leadership of a community organizer) the US is losing the battle in protecting our democracy and the values it stands for…

Our enemy(ies) are within….One can only hope and pray that the puppet-masters will be exposed.
