Presumed Guilty

November 15, 2009

On Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace gave Jack Reed, Democratic Senator from Rhode Island, an opportunity to defend the decision to give KSM a civilian trial in New York. After enumerating the many injuries this could cause the country, Wallace asked Reed for one advantage Attorney General Holder’s decision might bring. Reed, well known as a talking head for the White House, said that such a trial will “stand as a symbol in the world of something different than what the terrorists represents.”

That this comment comes shortly after the President bowed deeply to the Japanese emperor (an obeisance even more groveling than the one he lied about having offered Saudi King Abdullah this past spring) is, as my former Marxist friends used to say, no accident. This administration is obsessed with American guilt–so ambivalent about our country’s intrinsic meaning that it feels it must invent a new symbolism to convince the rest of the world that we are a good and decent nation. Other countries may be on the fence about whether we’re all that different from the terrorists, the logic of Reed’s comment seemed to suggest, so we must have a show trial to convince them that we are.

But while Reed smugly congratulates the administration for setting up a global civics lesson, KSM must be licking his chops and thanking Allah that nobody listened to him when he demanded to be put to death. Here he has an opportunity, courtesy of the chief law enforcement officer of the U.S., no less, to further the destruction he caused on 9/11. That attack hit buildings and bodies; the one he will soon be able to launch from a New York courtroom could affect American security even more profoundly since it will be directed at all the safeguards put into effect in the eight years since the first attack. In this regard, Holder has given KSM the opportunity to use one of the time honored techniques of the homicide bomber: set off one explosion, and then, when responders rush in to deal with the carnage, set off another that will claim an even larger number of victims.

Sen. Reed, one of those for whom 9/10 appears to be Groundhog Day, blithely dismissed the downside, but it will surely be America, as much or more than KSM himself, that will be on trial when this legal circus opens its big tent. Sources and methods of intelligence gathering, cooperation with foreign intelligence agencies, rendition, cruel and unusual incarceration, and most of all TORTURE  will dominate the proceedings. The rest of the world will not get a lesson about America’s constitutional glories, but a confirmation of its worst suspicions that we are and always have been a black ops nation.

KSM will get a chance to show the blood on the Great Satan’s hands. And Eric Holder and his President will get the Truth Commission they have wanted since the election but were afraid to seek through the normal political process. In this regard, at least, the trial will be win/win.

I think that the people of NYC should stand up and demand the the trial venue be changed to Washington DC…

9/11 wasn’t just an attack against NYC. The plane that hit the Pentagon, & which I’ve heard people speculate was actually heading for the White House, makes DC just as viable a place for the trial as NY….

Let’s see if the far left loons who are running our country have the stones to hold the trial there…

From where I sit, a major attack against Washington DC would be far less harmful to America than another attack on The Big Apple!

Spot on. I would add that the trial dates must coincide with the dates that the Obama and the Hill are in session and that Eric Holder must be in the court room every day of the trial. Of course this will never happen because these cowards sense danger and will never expose themselves to any risk. Are they deliberately painting a target on NY? Will this serve them politically and how? This is to be a show trial and will prove to be a disaster for this country. The question is to what end this administration will go to in their goal of destroying this country. Everything in this administration is smoke and mirrors with deceit and deception, obscure and diversion as it’s primary tools in changing this country.

I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I can’t think of a better idea, either. Washington is not a state, it’s an asylum.

Dick Morris is right…these lunatics have drawn a big bulls-eye around NYC.
Eric Holder…the AG who advised Clinton he could pardon Mark Rich, a defender of terrorist, and the one who announced Americans were cowards when it comes to race. Now there’s someone who’s thought processes and opinions I want to value…Eric Holder’s.
Right on Swenson, Holder’s set himself up as an authority on cowardness…I’m w/ Forsmark…DC it is. Here Comes The Sheik. Here Comes The Sheik.

The Liberal cum Leftist Bloomberg is happy for some convoluted reason. NY could come out of this looking the crap if this trial goes on and on. But, Bloomberg already bought his re-election and hope for a place on some parties presidential ticket. Wasn’t it interesting that Holder’s announcement came after the elections? To me it is obvious.

He and Hillary would be a perfect expression of the Liberal/Left/Progressives insanity.

There are two good things (and only) that could come of this. One is that it is not just the worse Presidenal decision ever it is the worse political decision even so, if anything goes wrong and it very well might, it is goodbye Obama.

    Opps: published that too quickly.
Two: There are a lot of guys in federal prisons who don’t care too much for the 9/11 plotters so………

There is no way someone like this would get general population.

Prisons are a major breeding ground for extremists.

Might as well give him a stage, a microphone and national tv coverage.

In an organized dictatorship KSM would either escape custody or get a faked death and cremation whilst being repatriated to the land of the Pakistani Talibanites. We await developments.

Great post. Really nice when someone says everything I want to, but better and quicker. It might be nice to think that Umboko’s incompetence will be the end of him, but aren’t we forgetting that doing the job well or properly, or having anything to do with the people you are meant to be representing, has never been part of any leftist agenda, anywhere (I write from the former Soviet Bloc). He’ll be kissing Putin next (although I think that Medvedev is more inclined to draw the line nearer civilisation).

Reed expects the terrorists to respect us because of our justice system. They hate our justice system.

The sophistry of our incumbent politicians while insulting our intelligence is pathetic. This proves that if you are not corrupt when you get to Washington you soon will be. Why do we keep re-electing these goons of all parties when we can have Congressional Term Limits Now? The answer is that the incumbents have the pork and can buy the special interests’ contributions at inflated prices.

Mr. Reed should resign, he no longer makes sense. Holding a trail when the defendant has already copped a plea make no legal sense other than it is a pubicity stunt.

Mr. holder reminds one of little-big man sticking his neck out while his buddy is away learning a new language, Chinese, because he may have to move to there, soon.

I don’t understand why nobody has noticed the obvious reason to bring KSM and his cohorts to New York. This trial whether held in Gitmo or New York will take forever to litigate. If in Gitmo, it stays open forever (ergo, Gitmo can’t be closed). If in New York, Obey can’t be asked for comment, ongoing trial and all that, and it won’t be finished until after 2012. Ding!
Plain as the nose on my face (and it is obvious)!

If it is in NYC at least have a wide viewership. Let me suggest Central Park. Smack dab in the middle.
