Lunch Break

Top 10 Reasons to Love Tom Petty
1. Most apolitical American rock icon.  (Google Tom Petty and Obama and you will find one lukewarm positive statement that is negative about rock stars campaigning.)
2. Can project middle American attitudes without the artifice of Bruce Springsteen or John Mellancamp.
3. Never uses the word America or American as a term of irony or sarcasm.
4. Was “instrumental” in making Johnny Cash’s late career return so successful
5. Artistic integrity– cares about making great music and is generous to other artists
6. Personal integrity– some members of his band have been with him since high school
7. Cares about the fan– keeps ticket and album prices low.  New fantastic Live Anthology is 4 discs and can be bought for 20 bucks most places.
8. NO ONE has written more good songs.  NO one.
9. Was a regular voice on the conservative animated show “King of the Hill” for years.
10. Hasn’t made a bad album in about 30 years.

Lunch Break is NewsReal’s daily apolitical post. (We all need a break from this political stuff every now and then!) When commenting on Lunch Break posts do not start political, religious, or philosophical debates. In fact from now on any serious debating comments on Lunch Break posts will be deleted. You’ve got all of NewsReal’s other posts to get argumentative, lets keep this one pure. (Humorous debates about meaningless subjects are permitted.)

If you would like to submit a video (humorous/music/film trailer/intriguing/etc.), image, or poem for this feature then please email it to DavidSwindle {@} (Sunday Lunch Breaks are often of a spiritual nature.) Please do not send attached videos, rather provide links to where the videos are available online at places like YouTube. Please include:

1. A link to where it’s from.

2. Any Comments you would like published with your submission

3. A link to your blog or homepage if you have one.

Also please keep it no more than PG-13 rated.

I also thought his lead guitarist played tastefully.Tom Petty’s songs always seem to have a nice “hook” to attract even the casual listen.

The new live album (albums) really lets the piano/keyboard player shine, too. They ARE tasteful, (good word) not showy, so they get under-rated.

This live 4 disc set for 20 bucks is easily the music value of the decade.

Too bad I don’t much care for any of his stuff.

    Apolitical? Maybe…

    What I’ve Learned: Tom Petty

“The war in Iraq is shameful. Whether you’re pro or con Bush, you’ve got to admit: The guy lied. And he continues to do so. I can’t understand why he’s just not run out on a rail. To send somebody’s kids off and have them killed for no good reason—he’s going to have his day in hell for that. I wouldn’t want that karma.”

well, you got me. He doesn’t do the Bruce Springsteen crap in concert though. You don’t have to yell “Shut up and sing.”

And, it’s possible to be a fan without tripping over this all the time, unlike most…

    @ LGS

Aw, what a shame to see. I’ve only listened to a few of his songs here and there, but after reading this article was going to give him more of a try.

    Forget it!
