Poor People Will Soon Be Homeless — Thanks to ACORN

December 1, 2009

New York State’s highest court has cleared the way for an ambitious $5 billion taxpayer-funded development to be built in Brooklyn.

On his TV show yesterday Glenn Beck pointed out that a group that claims to protect the interests of poor people, ACORN, helped make possible the deal that will make current inhabitants of the Atlantic Yards project footprint homeless. (See video from the show here.) ACORN has long prided itself on fighting the so-called gentrification of neighborhoods as rising property values force the poor to move.

But not anymore. ACORN sold out in exchange for a bailout.

Specifically, ACORN sold out its own constituents for $1.5 million in loans and grants from project developer Bruce Ratner, whose communist brother Michael Ratner is president of the Center for Constitutional Rights. (The anti-American public interest law firm is also representing ACORN in its vexatious lawsuit in which it claims to have a constitutional right to feed at the taxpayer trough.)

In 2005, ACORN signed an agreement with Forest City Ratner Companies, LLC, a megabucks real estate development firm, pledging its support for the  Atlantic Yards project. The 22-acre mixed-use project will be built in the neighborhood of Prospect Heights and would include the Barclays Center, a proposed sports arena that would become the new home of the New Jersey Nets basketball team.

Forest City Ratner indicated in a letter to ACORN that it would disburse $500,000 in grants but the money wouldn’t go to ACORN directly. The grants were to be made to the ACORN Institute, one of ACORN’s 100-plus tax-exempt nonprofit affiliates.

Whether the money will stay at the ACORN Institute, which trains aspiring community organizers, is anyone’s guess. ACORN routinely shuffles cash around its network. Its nebulous legal status and opaque corporate structure allow it to keep its activities largely hidden from public view.

For all Americans know, ACORN is being funded by the communist government of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. It’s not that farfetched an idea.

ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis is friendly with the Marxist anti-American governments of two South American countries.

Within Lewis’s storied rogues gallery of a rolodex may be found contact information for then-Bolivian ambassador Gustavo Guzman and for Sabine Kienzl, a professional propagandist employed by the Venezuelan embassy. The listing for Guzman contains what appears to have been a direct office telephone number.

Add to this a listing in the rolodex for CITGO executive Andres Rangel and the whole picture begins to come into clearer focus.

Remember that CITGO is a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA). PDVSA is owned by the government of Venezuela and has been described as a “black box” because it is believed to also fund Chavez’s overseas political ambitions. Oil export revenues fuel Chavez’s petro-diplomacy.

I don’t have proof that Chavez is funneling money to ACORN but it is not outside the realm of possibility, especially given ACORN’s well-established criminal propensities and convoluted finances.

The despot sends the equivalent of millions of dollars to the U.S. every year as part of his public diplomacy campaign aimed at getting the American public to warm up to his government. Venezuelan oil flows to Citizens Energy Corp., a nonprofit headed by former Rep. Joe Kennedy II (D-Mass.) that gives some of the home heating oil away and sells some at a discount to poor people.

Citizens Energy is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, which means obtaining information about its donors is virtually impossible.

Wow! with journalism like this America will never come out of it’s misery. This man is not a journalist but a dirty mercenary who uses the media as a weapon.

Nothing that benefits the poor is good no matter wher it comes from according to this unethical writer. America is being robbed blind by the zionist mafia that runs the government, (AIPAC, Rockefellers, Morgans etc) and yet we don’t see eXXXOn or conoco or any major oil vampire doing anything for the poor. All we see is foXXX news hiring mercenaries like this one to lie and insult people that don’t share in their crimes.

America is lost! the new world order is in effect and the next step is represion and mass murder like the Obama regime is now doing in Honduras.

The USA has been a tough and murderer regime for the past century and they are now out of control with the corripted business class running the government.

You are a lunatic. You don’t see exxon or conoco doing any good for poor people? Did you read the article? The point is, an organization that claims to support the poor, along with a socialist controlled company that claims to support the poor, are clearly NOT supporting the poor. WAKE UP, you brainwashed zombie. Read, pause, comprehend, pause, UNDERSTAND. Try that first, it might counteract your chemical imbalance.

I know the USA has made some mistakes, but we are still one of a very few countries in the world today who have not entirely lost their freedom to speak out against tyraniy. It is the last line of defense and those that embrace socialism ought to think about that for many use our media outlets to voice their displeasures all too frequently.

We allow the reader to judge who makes sense and who doesn’t, not our government.

Palomudo, I don’t agree with your statement, wholeheartedly.

You haven’t lost your freedom of speech? try critisizing Israel in public and call for a 911 investigation and see what would happen to you.

You not only lost your freedom of speech man….you lost your country! congress and senate and mined with members with dual nationality who answer to the other country more than yours….sure call me anti -whatever the heck you want but as much as you might denied it your country is run by the corrupted business class that own the federal reserve. Wake up

As for tirany we just have to look at Honduras and see how the Obama hipocritical and lying administration made the world believe that the US was against the coup when it fact it was made in the USA.

Now the US is setting 7 military bases in Cocalombia to fight the drug trade? using awacks and massive cargo planes to reach the entire continent, amazing how you can turn a peaceful area into a war zone in no time, you have been doing it for centuries, someday soon your damn empire will end!

Kim? I was going to give you a thumbs down rating because your post is so rambling, chaotic, misspelled and grammatically incorrect. It was really tough to get through it, but, I think I agree with everything you said.

I bet Kim is just mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. :) ^5

Though I wouldn’t bring God into it…but, that’s just me…I gotta agree with Kim too. Let’s just take one point, the intermingling of “left” and “right”. If we agree that the housing crisis was the straw that broke the economy’s back and that it was precipitated by Democrats pushing for “a house in every pot” (to mangle an earlier phrase), to gain voters, the Republicans were just as bad for not bringing the insane lending policies to a halt. Despite the fact that a few did whimper about the problem in congress, nothing came of it. Why? They were louthe to make a big stink because they are trying to buy off those same voters! From a different point of view, I have no doubt that some Republicans would vote for government run health care if they could get away with it. The point of the legislation is control, not health, and members on both sides want it. Some are just a bit more blatant! Too bad a third party isn’t viable in the US because Kim would be a part of it and some hack from either of the established parties would read her letter and say “See! She’s incoherant!” ( ie Joy Behar) without understanding the meat of what she has to say. Know what I mean? Otherwise, I’m with you Kim but lay off the thumpin’. We can look after this ourselves without God’s help. We just have to work a little harder.

You raise good points. For all too long, we trusted our elected officials to do the right thing.
Now, they are going to have to put up with us as we scrutinize every move they make.

We may not have all of the press behind us, but if they falter, so be it. Let them fall by the wayside.
