Why Does Michael Moore Want the Afghan People Living As Slaves Under Sharia Law? Because He and Other “Progressives” are Greedy

December 1, 2009

It's not like he's pro-Sharia. He's just content to advocate policies which will further the spread of Sharia law across the planet. Just as the New Left was anti-anti-Communist, the Moore Left is anti-anti-Sharia.

Does everyone remember what happened when we withdrew from Vietnam?

David Horowitz has a good summary and notes that the surrender of South Vietnam to communism,

… resulted in the imposition of a monstrous police state, the murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent South Vietnamese, the incarceration in reeducation camps of hundreds of thousands more and a quarter of a century of abject poverty imposed by crackpot Marxist economic plans, which continue to this day. This, too, is the responsibility of the so-called antiwar movement of the 1960s.

But who’s going to expect the Left to properly understand history?

No, in neo-communist filmmaker Michael Moore’s new open letter to President Barack Obama (published at, where else, Huffington Post) he urges a withdrawal of US troops in Afghanistan, completely blind to the consequences:

Don’t be deceived into thinking that sending a few more troops into Afghanistan will make a difference, or earn you the respect of the haters. They will not stop until this country is torn asunder and every last dollar is extracted from the poor and soon-to-be poor. You could send a million troops over there and the crazy Right still wouldn’t be happy. You would still be the victim of their incessant venom on hate radio and television because no matter what you do, you can’t change the one thing about yourself that sends them over the edge.

The haters were not the ones who elected you, and they can’t be won over by abandoning the rest of us.

President Obama, it’s time to come home. Ask your neighbors in Chicago and the parents of the young men and women doing the fighting and dying if they want more billions and more troops sent to Afghanistan. Do you think they will say, “No, we don’t need health care, we don’t need jobs, we don’t need homes. You go on ahead, Mr. President, and send our wealth and our sons and daughters overseas, ’cause we don’t need them, either.”

We can abandon Afghanistan and it can revert to being an Islamist police state run by the Taliban. It can return to being a safe haven for those who want to destroy America, exterminate the Jewish race, and create a world in which marrying children and mutilating women’s genitals are the norm.

War is indeed hell — not that I’m in any way qualified to make that judgment. (Read Karen Northon to get a more informed view. Patriotic heroes like Leo Thorsness also have a thing or two to say on the matter.) But which is worse: war or a totalitarian police state? Which was worse in the ’60s and ’70s: the Vietnam war or the Communist police state which followed? Which is worse today: the Afghanistan War or an Islamist police state?

Here’s the confrontation that needs to be had. Moore and other so-called “progressives” consider conservatives to be “greedy.” The Left thinks we should withdraw our troops from Afghanistan and Iraq and then spend that money on universal healthcare and federal jobs programs. To do otherwise is to be “greedy.”

The practical result of this would be Islamists being empowered. More women would be shoved into forced marriages, their faces mutilated with acid, and their lives spent hidden in burqas. More gays would be executed for being gay. An ideology bent on world domination would be further empowered. And why would this happen? Because “progressives” want government to give them money and make their lives easier.

And conservatives are the “greedy” ones? How does that work?

Because I’m an ex-leftist I know what some of the responses are going to be to the above argument. So let’s just preempt a few of them them right now:

1. The Marionette argument: “Dave, we can’t be Team America World Police. We can’t afford to send troops everywhere to stop every dictator.” Well duh. And no conservative is saying that we should. But we can recognize that the Islamist ideology is a threat that we cannot allow to grow stronger by retreating in Afghanistan. Are the US and Afghanistan better off with us continuing to fight? Or is it better for both countries that we surrender and head home so that ? There is an obvious answer here.

2. The Chickenhawk argument: “Oh yeah? You think we should fight in Afghanistan? Then you go over there and fight.” This is, of course, an ad hominem logical fallacy, but as I’ve demonstrated before true believers of all ideologies fail to grasp the difference between this and legitimate intellectual discussion. Upon encountering the Chickenhawk argument you should immediately realize that you’re dealing with someone who is unable to think rationally.

3. The Oversimplification argument: “Come on Dave, you’re oversimplifying when you talk about the Left. It’s not one monolithic entity and not all progressives think one way.” This is correct, but beside the point. There are plenty of dissenting views on the Left. (See this Michael Tomasky piece in which he goes after Moore for his open letter.)

And when I’m critiquing leftist activists and polemicists I’m not generally attacking citizens who merely identify with the Left, watch Keith Olbermann, and occasionally donate to MoveOn.Org. The radical core is significantly different than the by-and-large apolitical masses. This is a subject I hope to address at greater length at some point in the future.

Is he trying to re-release his failed attempt to demonize capitalism, while using it to make a profit. ” Don’t bite the hand that feeds you” is something you learn early in life. All his blood must be flowing downward, not much activity in his brain.

Michael Moore is an idiot. The only thing I liked from him was the thing he did against the “Westboro Baptist Church” (those people are craaazzyyy) (those are the ones who protest fallen soldiers memorials and funerals). But when Michael Moore attacked capitalism while making money from it and his other movies and stuff, it was funny. And what was funny, was that the Anti-Capitalism film of his, was a box office bomb (barely made any money). It’s like a bear goes to eat fish and a giant fish smacks the bear silly. Complete irony. When people say “Define Irony”, say this “Attack capitalism while making money and then fail to make money”. And when they say “when did that happen”, you say simply “Michael Moore”. Also I did sorta like Canadian Bacon (it was funny).

If most of our soldiers came home tomorrow would Michael Moore share his money with them? Because they sure as hell aren’t going to find any jobs right away, thanks to the geniuses in Washington. Or maybe Mr. Moore will be all for enforcing immigration laws to free up some work for these soldiers.I’m not going to hold my breath.

    Who Are the “Haters?”

It’s becoming increasingly alarming the way Moore and others are calling those with more conservative values, values not shared or tolerated by the Left, “haters.” Obviously, if they can get folks believing that Conservatives are “haters,” it will follow that Conservatives will become hated. (This is their objective.)

We disagree with the Left’s penchant to Blame America for everything wrong in the world, all the while ignoring the good that America has brought about in the world.

We disagree with Left’s lemming-like devotion to Socialism.

If rhetoric can be used as a gauge of true hate, let’s compare what comes from the Left, with what comes from those on the Right.

Even Juan Williams, one from the Left, has noticed that the viciousness of the American Left:

While I admire America’s push to bring peace and democracy to Afghanistan, why are some so obsessed to go there with more troops into that hellhole? Get real America. You cannot be the world’s policeman and at the same time bring American-style democracy to people who do not want American-style democracy. And suppose you do succeed to one degree or another in that part of the world, where are you going to go next to bring “freedom”? Russia? China? Cuba? Pakistan? Sudan? Nigeria? Islamized Europe, North Korea? My suggestion is: Clean up your own backyard first. You have enough problems within your own borders that need correcting. Your own country is being Islamized right before your eyes and you’re spending precious resources, human and economic, to help the “poor Afghani people.” Start fighting a war on Jihadis inside your own borders first. Classic example: Rifqa Bary is a prisoner under Sharia Law in the land of the free and the home of the brave and there is no one to free her. Dhuuuuh. Simply put, there are too many “poor people” in the world for America to handle and to rescue.

While it’s true that Afghanistan isn’t that important to us in and of itself, you’re missing the main point of why we’re there…

It’s not about Afghanistan, it’s about Pakistan, because if the Taliban is allowed to regain control of Afghanistan then they’ll probably be able to take over Pakistan as well….

And Pakistan has nuclear weapons !

Just because Michael Moore can get someone to produce his rubbish hardly qualifies him as a foreign policy expert. Celebrity clearly does not dictate competence.
I have one question. Say the USA pulls out of Iraq and Afghanistan and Israel capitulates all the land the Palestinians want for their own state. What happens next? All the terrorism will just stop right? Jihadists will return to their homes satisfied and we will all sit around and sing kum-ba-ya together. Hoo-ray!
Israel could be whittled down to the size of a football field and it would still not be enough because peaceful co-existence is not the goal. More than likely the football field would be deemed historically significant to Islam and the Israelis would have to move onto a postage stamp.
If America were the cause of all of this Islamic angst then how do we explain the Muslim problem in the Caucuses or Southern Thailand? How about the slaughter of innocent children at Beslan? How about the presence of Hizbollah and Islamic Jihad in the tri-border region of South America?
I am still having a problem understanding how someone can be a “hater” for pointing out Islamic hate speech and female subjugation.
Moore’s ignorance to the big picture and his attempt to throw his celebrity girth around to intimidate politicians instead of doing the right thing is tragic.
The cessation of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan will lead to the deaths of more Americans at home and abroad.

Good points idviking, and the muslims kill Christians in the mostly Christian Phillipines, too–what do they have to do with US “greed for oil” or whatever the left lays on us this week?
Steve has a point though-we are being Islamized, and we need to protect our borders.
What gets me about sending troops anywhere are the suicidal Rules of Engagement they are forced to fight under. A certain fiery Cajun General would say they are “stuck on stupid.”

You are 100% right. Remember the 25 Chechens they caught crossing the border in Arizona earlier this year? We are systematically being assaulted politically, militarily and philosophically and instead of engaging the threat most folks are just looking the at their feet hoping that it will go away. The ROEs are ridiculous. It is impossible to politely fight a war when the Jihadist stop at nothing. The terrorist are disfiguring, amputating, and decapitating our troops when they catch them. And yet this fact goes unreported ad infinitum.
However if an SF guy punches a terrorist during an engagement he should be court-martialed?
I would submit that they are not”stuck on stupid”. I am more cynical than that.
I fear that the lawyers running the war are on retainer for someone else and they are constantly looking for ways to actually “help” us lose. Seriously, a guy runs around a military base screaming “ALLAH AKBAR” as he murders our soldiers and the first thing the media and politicians do is to try disconnect him from Islam? How about America and Americans first for a change instead of sympathizing with a murderer who rejects our ideals and values in the name of Sharia?
